Barnstaple conveyancing
If you are looking for experienced conveyancing solicitors in Barnstaple, then look no further than Slee Blackwell.
Our head office is situated at 10 Cross Street in Barnstaple. The building previously served as the town’s post office until it was converted by us in the late 1980s. Today more than 50 people work in our Barnstaple office, many of them within our large property team, dealing with the sale and purchase of residential and commercial buildings and land throughout Devon, the south west and beyond.
Barnstaple itself is thought to be the oldest borough in the UK. It is situated on the river Taw and is served by a picturesque railway branch line that winds through the Devon countryside from Exeter to the south. It’s known as the Tarka Line, named after Henry Williamson’s much loved Tarka the Otter. His novel about Tarka has been described as the greatest animal story ever written.
Famed for its historic Pannier Market and Butchers’ Row, Barnstaple was at the centre of a major political scandal in the 1970s involving its MP Jeremy Thorpe who was leader of the Liberal Party at the time. He faced trial at the Old Bailey, charged with conspiracy and incitement to murder. Although Thorpe was acquitted he was unable to rekindle his political career.
A number of Slee Blackwell’s partners are based in the property team in Barnstaple. These include Nick Arthur, Louise Langabeer and Emma Napper.
The team are always happy to provide an estimate of charges for any property transaction, including the sale and purchase of houses and flats, commercial property and farms.
